ABOUT THE PROJECT

It was an amazing honor to have painted for the Pacific Arts and Culture Festival 2016 at Sagan Kotturan Chamoru, or the Chamoru Cultural Center.  So much inspiration to bring back with me to last me a lifetime.

Sagan Kotturan Chamoru is a community based, volunteer supported Chamoru cultural center focused on promoting, perpetuating  and preserving the Chamorro culture.  The non-profit organization, Inadahen i Lina’la’ was incorporated in 2006.  This grassroots organization was formed by a group of artisans and community members that recognized the urgency in establishing a Chamoru cultural center, and who share a deep understanding for preserving Chamoru cultural heritage and language.  Sagan Kotturan Chamoru occupies nine acres of land at Ipao Point.  Eight buildings are constantly being developed to support the diverse areas that identify their unique culture.

Their mission is the preservation, perpetuation and promotion of Chamoru heritage through immersion, education, apprenticeship and demonstration of traditional and contemporary Chamoru arts, language and history.
